WEAR THE
CROWN.

(Or in my case, photograph it!)

My name is Atlas Vernier (they/them). I’m a photographer specializing in candid action photography. The easiest thing in the world for me is taking pictures of people doing what they love. That, combined with my own love for music and performance, means that the bulk of my work is centered around musicians and marching bands! By day, I’m working on my PhD in systems engineering. My thesis is centered around the ways in which individuals and groups from different linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary backgrounds collaborate and communicate!

I have been in and around marching bands for over a decade: from marching bagpipes in high school to joining the Marching Virginians at Virginia Tech. I marched for five years at Virginia Tech before joining the Senior Staff. As a member of the Senior Staff, I am responsible for:

  • overseeing the logistics, communication, and movement of the ensemble at large, including registration

  • distributing and maintaining uniforms throughout the season

  • providing experience-based advice and support for current leadership to address barriers with new marchers and potential gaps in positional purview

  • supporting our multimedia team through photos, videos, and livestream throughout the season!

I’ve included a selection of my band-related photography below. You can click on any image to view it full-screen! While I’m most interested in joining Carolina Crown as a photographer, I’m also happy to help in other ways! I tend to jump into the deep end and ask what I can do to help.

I’m happy to answer any questions. Thank you so much!
